Community Music Workshop –
Cooperation of the Munich Philharmony Orchestra and Freies Musikzentrum Munich

Continuing the cooperation with the Munich Philharmonic Orchestra, a very interesting project on exclusion and integration based on the TrommelPower method was developed in a second grade of the elementary school on Flurstraße in Munich. The project was led by Yoshita Matthias Kinoshita, (children's choir director, music therapist and TrommelPowerTrainer) and Manuel von der Nahmer (cellist with the Munich Philharmonic Orchestra).

As in the first project "A Song for the Pied Piper", the musicians developed a story together with the children. It is about the exclusion of a single student. A drum scene shows how a student in his class is excluded from all groups. After a touching song of loneliness and sadness, the classmates develop empathy and understanding. They open their groups and approach the child. The story ends with a song of friendship.

The theme of the piece evolved from a concrete situation in the class that had occurred frequently. The story then arose in collaboration with the children. As many impulses as possible were picked up. For example, lyrics of the children that emerged during the project talks were made into songs by the musicians. These were presented as solo and choral.

The songs that were created in the project, are very sensitive and touching through their special musical design, supported by the piano and cello sounds of the musicians. The children and the audience loved the music.
The musical story was performed at the Festival MPHIL 360º of the Munich Philharmonic Orchestra on November 12, 2016 in the Black Box of the Gasteig in Munich. Another cooperation project is currently taking place, funded by the program "Arts and Games" of the Robert Bosch Stiftung and the Stiftung Brandenburger Tor.

The children go up to the stage with loud drumming.

Everyone is playing together on the stage.

But then groups form. There is a yellow group, a blue one and a red one.

Here are the yellow ones

The colorful child does not fit anywhere. His desire to play along is rejected by all groups.

He sits alone on the edge of the stage. He is lonely and plays a sad song.

The musicians accompany him (Y. Kinoshita und M. von der Nahmer)

Touched by his music, other children join in and play along.

There are more and more who play with him...

... and sing a song of apology and friendship.

Finally, all sing the song together.
